  • How to choose Enamel Pin and Painted Pin

How to choose Enamel Pin and Painted Pin   The word “quality” is very subjective. Using photos online as a guideline is not ideal when evaluating an Enamel Pin maker. How do you know what type of Enamel Pin to order? What criteria do you use to evaluate quality?    Before you can start, you need samples. Ask for samples in Hard Enamel, Soft Enamel and metal finish. This is also a good way to rate a vendors response time to your quote requests.    With samples in hand, use the following guidelines to determine if your vendor can produce quality custom pins for you:     1) Legibility   Does the design hold up at scale? Sometimes vendors will suggest Smaller Pins, in an effort to cut costs and win contracts. Even worse is when you select a pin size that is too small for your design. Nobody wants to buy a pin you cannot read! At Kangjin factory, we clearly communicate design concerns to our customers before we make each pin order.     2) Thickness And Type Of Base Metal  A lot of people equate the thickness of the pin with the quality. It has to “look and feel” like quality. The thickness of the pin is fairly standard in our industry.   Note: customers who want quality Custom Pins generally are not satisfied with the Printed Pin process. This is also called "hybrid" or "digi-print".  Think paper glued on a metal base.    3) Enamel Quality  Is the paint clean and firmly in place?  If your samples have light colors, look closely to see if there are any swirls or imperfections in the colors from dirt on the base metal.  Look for dust or specks stuck in the paint as well. Look in between some of the lettering at the “A”s to make sure that the insides are filled. If they are not, the pin size might be too small for the design or the vendor doesn’t have clean enough pin bases at the factory before applying paint.    Are your enamel color choices rich and bright? Do you see high and low spots where there shouldn't be? Has your pin been buffed to a shine? Does the enamel fill all sections of your pin or did they miss a spot in the laying of enamel process. The soft enamel process does not showcase an even level surface on your design whereas our hard enamel process does.  If you need help understanding the difference between the hard and soft enamel process, click here.    Hard-Enamel-versus-Soft-Enamel-Pins-difference-2019  4) The Post And Grip Take off the backing and give the post a little push back and forth. Does the weld hold or does it pop off? Is it easy to remove and apply the butterfly clutch?   5) Placement Of Backing Is the backing centered so that it hangs properly on the garment? Sometimes an off-centered backing is required to allow the pin to hang correctly.     6) Quality of electroplating.  Are there any marks or spots on the edges of the pin? Is the metal finish a nice bright gold or nickel or bronze color? If you are considering antique or sandblasted finishes it is especially important to ask for samples to determine if you like the effect. It's also common for factories to have different shades of gold electroplate. Some favor more yellow colours.      7) Experience & Reviews   Make sure you go with a company that has a track record. It's our opinion that it takes 10 years or more as a manufacturer or supplier to achieve excellence. It's also common for online business to allow customers to review them on social media or google maps.    We started in this business as manufacturers. Most suppliers simply take your design and order it from another factory. If they don't understand the manufacturing processes, you may be paying too much! When we order your pins, you can be confident that your art, logo and pin idea are going to work well with your custom lapel pin. [View Details]
  • How to Choosing Embroicery Patches or Woven Labels for you

How to choosing Embroicery Patches or Woven Labels for you     First, think about your application. Do you need a miniature billboard for the outside of your product? Embroicery Patches are similar to custom Woven Labels, sometimes square or rectangular, or perhaps a unique shape, like a circle or a star, that is usually meant to be affixed in an obvious place outside of the garment or product. Embroicery Patches are stiff, and can handle large amounts of wear and friction.   Embroicery Patches are permanent fixtures to garments—they are usually attached to the outside of the fabric and not intended to be cut off or removed easily like regular sewing labels can.     For instance, think of high school band jacket with the various Embroicery Patches sewn on the arm or the lapel. Oftentimes, Embroicery Patches are larger than Clothing Labels or other types of product tags. These type of fabric branding options, as mentioned above are “billboards”.     Woven Labels, on the other hand, are often, but not always, placed on the inside of the garment or product. Think of tags sewn into the neck of collars or the waistband of pants. However, this is not always the case—many labels, especially custom Woven Labels, are placed on the product’s external surface as well. In most cases, this will be woven tags, and not printed cotton or satin ones, because of durability issues.   Also, if you need care or content information, it is best to get a regular Clothing Label, especially a midfold, as woven patches are best used for logo only.   Custom Woven Labels in general may be circular, square, or laser cut into any specific shape requested. Oftentimes, they are conspicuous and contain emblems, logos, and written information.     Still unsure? • Women Pins in World War I

Women Pins in World War I   Much like the use of military insignia to identify its wearer by association with an organization and his/her achievements, the Military Women Pins and buttons in this section were meant to be worn by Americans on the home front during World War I to show their membership in an organization and/or their contribution to a particular war effort, such as the United War Work Campaign. The Military Women Pins and buttons displayed the wearer's patriotism and generosity and undoubtedly also served to prompt others to become involved in the various war efforts.  Women were heavily involved in the organizations and war efforts with which these objects are associated.     The Military Women Pins and buttons showcased in this section are from the Division of Medicine and Science’s collection of celluloid objects, donated by two enthusiastic celluloid collectors. Celluloid is a thin, highly flammable plastic first created in 1856 by Alexander Parkes, although not patented as "celluloid" until 1869 under the auspices of inventor John Wesley Hyatt. It was widely used as film for movies and photography up through the 1950s. Celluloid was an excellent material for making jewelry, particularly because it was much cheaper to manufacture and could imitate finer materials like ivory. Other items once made with celluloid include—but are by no means limited to—postcards, game pieces, knitting needles, toys, and matchbox covers, two of which are also included in this section. Today celluloid is still used in the production of ping pong balls and guitar picks. [View Details]
  • Modern Military Campaign Medals

Modern Military Campaign Medals   A Campaign Medal is a military decoration which is awarded to a member of an armed force who serves in a designated military operation or performs duty in a geographical theater. Campaign Medals are very similar to service Medals but carry a higher status as the award usually involves deployment to a foreign region or service in a combat zone.       Military Campaign Medals's History     Campaign Medals were first invented to recognize general military service in war, in contrast to meritorious decorations which were only issued on a small scale for acts of heroism and bravery. The campaign were first issued by the british military with the Medal awarded for the defeat of the Invincible Armada, with the 1815 waterloo Medal being the first awarded to all men present and the 1847 Military General Service Medal being the first "modern" Campaign Medal. • The Edward Medal one of the rarest British gallantry awards

The Edward Medal one of the rarest British gallantry awards.   The Edward Medal was instituted by Royal Warrant on 13 July 1907 to recognise acts of bravery of miners and quarrymen in endangering their lives to rescue their fellow workers. The original Royal Warrant was amended by a further Royal Warrant on 1 December 1909 to encompass acts of bravery by all industrial workers in factory accidents and disasters, creating two versions of the Edward Medal: Mines and Industry. In both case (Mines and Industry), the Medal was divided in two grades: first class (silver) and second class (bronze). The cost of the Edward Medal (Mines) was borne by a fund established by a group of philanthropists (including prominent mine owners) and not the state.           The Edward Medal (Mines) was awarded only 395 times (77 silver and 318 bronze) and the Edward Medal (Industry) only 188 times (25 silver and 163 bronze, of which only two were awarded to women), making the Edward Medal one of the rarest British gallantry awards.   Only posthumous awards were made after 1949, and the Edward Medal (Industry) (1st class) has not been awarded since 1948.   The Edward Medal was discontinued in 1971, when surviving recipients of the Edward Medal (along with holders of the Albert Medal) were invited to exchange their award for the George Cross. Nine (2 silver, 7 bronze) elected not to exchange their medals.   [View Details]
